HC Deb 15 January 1988 vol 125 cc638-9

Order for Second Reading read.

Hon. Members

Object. [Interruption.]

Mr. Deputy Speaker

Order. Hon. Members who are leaving the Chamber should do so quickly and quietly because there is still business to discuss.

Although the Clerk read the title of Bill No. 3, the Disqualification from Ownership of Animals Bill, I must tell the House, that, because the Bill has the same effect as clause 1 of the Protection of Animals (Amendment) Bill, which received its Second Reading on 11 December, I cannot propose the Question on Second Reading.

Mr. Harry Greenway (Ealing, North)

On a point of order, Mr. Deputy Speaker. I should like to make it clear that, having had the contents of my Bill — the Disqualification from Ownership of Animals Bill—safely subsumed into the Protection of Animals (Amendment) Bill, I do not propose to move the Second Reading of the Bill today. I shall strongly support the Protection of Animals (Amendment) Bill.
