HC Deb 22 March 1984 vol 56 cc1172-3
22. Mr. William Ross

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland if he is satisfied with the present level of security in Northern Ireland; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Prior

I refer the hon. Gentleman to the answer that I have already given.

Mr. Ross

In an earlier answer the Secretary of State said that he was giving consideration to the position that now exists as a result of the fiasco over the closure of cross-border roads. As a result of that reconsideration, has he scored off the list any of the roads that were formerly to be blocked? Will he explain to the right and learned Member for Worley, West (Mr. Archer) the effect that the blocking of a cross-border road has on terrorists, for example, who are fleeing by car to the Republic, as they would have to abandon the vehicle at the road block and have difficulty getting another?

Mr. Prior

I did not hear part of the hon. Gentleman's supplementary question. The best thing that I can do is write to him about it.
