HC Deb 27 January 1984 vol 52 c1172
Mr. Roger Gale (Thanet, North)

On a point of order, Mr. Speaker. I should like your advice but in doing so I shall try not to abuse the privilege of the House. At my request, the leader of Canterbury city council visited an elderly couple in my constituency. They were in some distress as a result of a circular letter which I believe was irresponsible and ill advised. It had been sent by the chairman of housing of the Greater London council. The letter informed them, and others like them, of dire consequences of their property being transferred from the GLC to the local authority. Distress to elderly people is a matter of immediate importance.

In normal circumstances and on any other day of the week I should have tried to raise the matter by way of an application under Standing Order No. 10. I cannot do that on a Friday. Is there any way by which the House can consider the matter today?

Mr. Speaker

I can understand that this matter causes great distress to the hon. Gentleman and his constituents, but it is not one for me. The hon. Gentleman will have to seek other parliamentary means by which to draw it to the attention of the House.
