Good progress is being made in strengthening financial management in Government Departments but a lot remains to be done.

Exactly what role is the Management Personnel Office carrying out to ensure that the more that needs to be done is done?

Central Departments are advising Departments. I know that my hon. Friend takes a close interest in these matters. He will find that progress is being made. We are committed to a White Paper in July this year to report on the plans that were announced last September. I am sure that it will show that significant progress is being made.
