§ 38. Mr. Arnoldasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what consultations have taken place within the EEC towards establishing a closer degree of co-operation in the development of external broadcasting services.
§ Mr. TomlinsonNone, Sir.
§ Mr. ArnoldIs not the BBC, faced with a rapid expansion in external broadcasting by other countries, seriously concerned about maintaining and protecting the level of its services? Does the hon. Gentleman agree that a closer degree of co-operation within the Community would be of benefit, particularly in respect of capital expenditure and the development of transmitters and expensive overseas relay stations?
§ Mr. TomlinsonCo-operation on these aspects is a matter for the broadcasting organisations. The BBC external services have close links with their counterparts in other member countries of the EEC.
