§ 24. Mr. Sydney Chapmanasked the Secretary of State for Social Services what categories of information are to be published for the areas covered by the new parliamentary constituencies, and when, based upon the 1971 census returns.
§ Mr. AlisonIt is intended to publish the results of the 1971 census analysed by both the existing and the new parliamentary constituencies in two stages: first, the information on population and housing early in the autumn; and second, the economic information including that on employment by industry and occupation group towards the end of the year.
§ Mr. ChapmanAs at least 30 months will elapse between the census and the publication of the results based upon the new parliamentary constituencies, will my hon. Friend consider making available more quickly the information stemming from future census returns? I ask him to do so not only because the information is of vital importance to hon. Members but because of the increased mobility of the population, which makes the figures less relevant more quickly.
§ Mr. AlisonI take note of my hon. Friend's point.
