HC Deb 02 April 1973 vol 854 c163

Order for Second Reading read.

10.13 p.m.

The Solicitor-General (Sir Michael Havers)

I beg to move, That the Bill be now read a Second time.

This is a consolidation Bill. It consolidates what remains of the Costs in Criminal Cases Act 1952, the Criminal Appeal Act 1968, the Courts Act 1971 and the Criminal Justice Act 1972, with certain minor amending revisions. The Joint Committee has reported that the Bill is pure consolidation and represents the existing law, and there is no point to which the attention of Parliament should be drawn. There is no alteration of any kind.

Question put and agreed to.

Bill accordingly read a Second time.

Bill committed to a Committee of the whole House.—[Mr. Fortescue.]

Committee tomorrow.
