HC Deb 12 December 1972 vol 848 c219
12. Mr. Sydney Chapman

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he is satisfied with the progress being made in collating and publishing the results of the 1971 Census; and if he will make a statement.

Sir K. Joseph

I regret that the publications already issued or now expected, referred to in my reply to my hon. Friend on 11th December, are about six months behind schedule, though they are still substantially earlier than their equivalents in relation to the Censuses of 1966 and 1961.—[Vol. 848, c. 64.]

Mr. Chapman

I am grateful to my hon. Friend for that reply. I appreciate the mass of information and statistics that must be interpreted and separated, but will statistics be published—and if so, what statistics, and when—on the new local authority and parliamentary constituency boundaries?

Sir K. Joseph

I very much regret that I cannot give a precise answer, but I shall write to my hon. Friend, unless he likes to put down a Question. It is expected that all the main reports on the Census will be published by the end of next year.
