HC Deb 10 March 1971 vol 813 cc412-3
51. Mr. Skinner

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what representations he has received on the new housing subsidies from the National Association of Tenants and Residents.

Mr. Amery

This association has expressed concern at the Government's proposal. I have invited the association to develop its views in writing so that I can consider them.

Mr. Skinner

Is the Minister aware that the representations of the National Association of Tenants and Residents will prove to be very different from the advice which he is presently receiving from the Tory-dominated local authority associations? Will he also explain, since he refuses to tell the House, by how much council rents will increase as a result of the £200 million cut in subsidies and the appalling statement which he made this afternoon about the 4 per cent. effective rate of interest which is to be discontinued even for those houses built in the last four years?

Mr. Amery

The hon. Gentleman has asked several supplementary questions which do not arise directly from the original Question. I am still awaiting the written views of the association concerned.
