§ 33. Mr. William Edwardsasked the Secretary of State for Wales whether he can now inform the Wales Tourist Board of the nature of the assistance to the hotel industry promised as from 1st April, 1971; and whether he will make a statement.
§ Mr. Gibson-WattThe Board is already aware of the nature of this assistance, as set out in the reply which my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry gave on 10th December to my hon. Friend the Member for Ipswich (Mr. Money).—[Vol. 808, c. 183–4.]
§ Mr. William EdwardsWill the hon. Gentleman accept an assurance that people in the hotel industry in Wales are not aware of the nature of the assistance which will be given after 31st March? If the experience which industrialists in Wales have had from the disastrous tax allowance scheme is anything to go by, there will be no new investment in the hotel industry in Wales next year.
§ Mr. Gibson-WattI cannot accept that. I think the hon. Gentleman knows the situation, but I will tell him again. The amount of assistance in 1971–72 for Wales is £200,000—a very fair share of the total of £1 million proposed for Britain as a whole.
