HC Deb 01 March 1971 vol 812 cc1202-3
11. Mr. Tilney

asked the Secretary of State for Wales when he hopes to announce a decision by Her Majesty's Government over the construction of a Dee barrage.

Mr. Peter Thomas

The Dee Crossing Studies have not yet been completed and I cannot state when Governmental decisions will be taken.

Mr. Tilney

In the hope of getting red roses and daffodils into the same bed, can my right hon. and learned Friend expedite a decision? Is not a multipurpose scheme dealing with water, recreation and transport just the kind of infrastructure which is so badly needed in the North-West, which is now suffering from a slight recession?

Mr. Peter Thomas

I agree that the scheme envisaged is a very exciting one, but there are complicated matters involved and this, again, is a matter in which a hasty decision should not be taken.
