HC Deb 30 June 1971 vol 820 cc390-1
32. Mr. David Clark

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what representations he has received about the lack of access to the Peak District National Park in the area of Meltham.

Mr. Graham Page

I am not aware of any representations referring specifically to lack of access in the Meltham area of the Peak District National Park. The Holme Valley Moorland Rescue have made representations to me about lack of access generally in the Peak Park for their work.

Mr. Clark

While thanking the hon. Gentleman for that reply, may I ask whether in representations he has received—since I was led to understand that there have been representations—some concern has been raised about areas in the national park which were un-fenced now being fenced? Can he do anything to resolve this aggravating problem that, in the national park, people cannot walk freely on the open moor?

Mr. Page

Yes, I have put these matters to the National Park Planning Board and I am awaiting the results of those representations to the Board.
