§ 26. Mr. Greville Jannerasked the Secretary of State for the Environment how many council houses have been completed in the city of Leicester during each of the last three years for which records are available.
§ Mr. ChannonThe information is published in Local Housing Statistics, the relevant copies of which are available in the Library.
§ Mr. JannerIs the hon. Gentleman aware that, no doubt in common with other hon. Members, the single largest category of complaints that I receive in Leicester concerns housing problems? Is he aware that the council have completed 200 or 300 houses in each of the past two years and that the housing manager estimates that 23,000 people are involved in housing lists? Would he not do something to stimulate the building of low-cost housing in Leicester for people who need homes?
§ Mr. ChannonThe whole purpose of our reform of housing finance is aimed at directing subsidies to those areas and people who are most in need of them. I will bear the hon. and learned Gentleman's point in mind.
