HC Deb 28 June 1971 vol 820 c19
20. Mr. Ellis

asked the Secretary of State for Wales when the recent major road alterations were completed at the A5 road junction at Whitehurst Forge near Chirk; and how many fatalities have occurred since then between this junction and Whitehurst Village.

Mr. Gibson-Watt

This improvement scheme was completed in October, 1969. The fatal accident which occurred on Saturday, 19th June, is the first since these road works were completed.

Mr. Ellis

I am disappointed that the figure is as high as it is, as I am sure the hon. Gentleman will also be. Is he aware that there are several unsatisfactory features of the layout and approaches, and that grave doubts are being expressed by people living near there, particularly since the completion of the junction? Will he ask his engineers to look at the layout with a view to making improvements?

Mr. Gibson-Watt

Both the A483 and the A5 roads at this point are included in a main feasibility study now being carried out by the engineers on behalf of my right hon. and learned Friend.
