HC Deb 06 July 1970 vol 803 cc301-2
8. Mr. Sheldon

asked the Minister of Technology if he will make a statement on Government assistance to Rolls Royce.

41. Mr. Dalyell

asked the Minister of Technology what proposals he has for Government financial aid to Rolls Royce.

Mr. Rippon

We have received revised proposals from Rolls Royce for launching aid for a more powerful version of the RB211 engine. These are being considered.

Mr. Sheldon

Would the Minister say whether this aid to the RB211 50 engine is considered an unnecessary intervention by Government, or is this one of the exceptions to their rule in dealing with industry?

Mr. Rippon

I hope to make a fuller statement about this in due course.

Mr. Dan Jones

Is the Minister aware of the tremendous export potential of the RB211 and its great economic value to our country? Will he take that into account before any decision is taken against that of the previous Administration?

Mr. Rippon

I will certainly take all these matters into consideration.
