HC Deb 03 November 1969 vol 790 c645
7. Mrs. Renée Short

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will publish the figures relating to immigrant births in his next quarterly return.

Dr. John Dunwoody

The Registrar General informs me that he intends to publish some figures at the first opportunity but that information may not be available in time for his next Quarterly Return.

Mrs. Short

As research indicates that in the West Midlands at least the birthrate among immigrant families is falling, is it not essential to publish this information and so spike the guns of these who would use it to stir up political unrest?

Dr. Dunwoody

I think that it is important that we should have this information. A number of changes were made in the birth registration form as from 1st April of this year. Obviously it will take time before this information can be published, but I assure my hon. Friend that this will be done.
