HC Deb 12 March 1969 vol 779 cc1348-9
8. Mrs. Cullen

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what steps are being taken to celebrate the jubilee year of the Forestry Commission.

Dr. Dickson Mabon

The Forestry Commission is holding a major forestry exhibition at Edinburgh on 5th, 6th and 7th June; and it is organising forest weeks at selected forests and centres throughout Great Britain during the summer.

Mrs. Cullen

Are special arrangements being made to encourage children, especially children from my constituency, to attend these events?

Dr. Mabon

Yes. I am glad to tell my hon. Friend that the Forestry Commission is in touch with education authorities, and the response is very encouraging. Many parties of school children are expected at events in various parts of the country, and there is an indoor exhibition at the Glasgow Museum and Art Gallery in the days after the Edinburgh exhibition, from 9th to 21st June.

Mr. Stodart

Would not the best possible celebration for this jubilee year be for the Forestry Commission and others to be enabled to clear the great mass of wind-blown timber that still exists?

Dr. Mabon

There is a Question on the Order Paper about this which I shall be happy to answer.
