HC Deb 10 March 1969 vol 779 c965
28. Mr. Doig

asked the Minister of Transport how many vehicles have been tested at the Heavy Goods Testing Station in Perth to the nearest convenient day; and what percentage of these were from Dundee.

Mr. Carmichael

By 28th February, 362 motor vehicles and trailers had been tested; 64 per cent. of the total were from Dundee—44 per cent. were trailers belonging to National Carriers Ltd., and 20 per cent. were other vehicles.

Mr. Doig

Is my hon. Friend not willing to agree, in the light of these figures, that he ought immediately to take steps to establish a local testing station in Dundee?

Mr. Carmichael

The figures are not really typical of the future trend as they relate mainly to very old vehicles and include an abnormally large number of trailers from National Carriers Ltd. situated in Dundee. Of the 142 applications received at the goods vehicle centre for which tests have not been carried out, only 42 per cent. are from Dundee.
