HC Deb 22 October 1968 vol 770 c1087
Q8. Mr. Hector Hughes

asked the Prime Minister when and where he next proposes to meet the Prime Minister of Eire.

The Prime Minister

I shall be meeting the Prime Minister of the Irish Republic when he visits London on 30th October.

Mr. Hughes

Would this not be a suitable opportunity for the Prime Minister to invite also the Prime Minister of Northern Ireland so that the three Prime Ministers could put their heads together with a view to achieving for the whole island not only unity but democracy in view of what has happened recently in Northern Ireland?

The Prime Minister

As my hon. and learned Friend knows, I have invited the Prime Minister of Northern Ireland also to come to Britain, and he will be coming shortly but at a different time. I think we have enough trouble without raising the point which my hon. and learned Friend puts.
