§ 32. Mr. Rankinasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs how many United States warships are presently in Victoria Harbour; what reason has been given to the Hong Kong authorities for their visit; for how long have they been there; and when they expect to be leaving.
§ Mr. WhitlockI am consulting the Governor and will write to my hon. Friend.
§ Mr. RankinWhen my hon. Friend is consulting the Governor will he point out that already in Asia there are ample facilities for the type of service which has been given to American troops in Hong Kong? In Japan, Thailand, the Philippines and many other parts of Asia recreation and rest facilities are amply provided.
§ Mr. WhitlockAs my hon. Friend knows, the facilities provided in Hong Kong for United States naval vessels are purely for recreational and other facilities. Those facilities are only of the kind provided to naval vessels in any other major port.
