Mr. Roy Hughesasked the Secretary of State for Wales, in view of his intention to put forward detailed proposals for legislation based on the organisation outlined in the White Paper, Local Government in Wales, Command Paper No. 3340, if he will also establish a staffing commission at the earliest practicable date.
§ Mrs. WhiteAs the White Paper made clear, it is proposed that the legis- 704 lation should provide for a Welsh Staff Commission. The local authority associations and the staff associations will be consulted about the details in the course of the continuing preparatory work.
§ Mr. HughesI am glad to be reassured on this point by my hon. Friend. Will she also appreciate that to secure the full co-operation of the local Government officers concerned in the reorganisation, it is essential that their security be given the highest possible priority?
§ Mrs. WhiteI am quite certain that my right hon. Friend has this very much in mind, and he will, of course, be consulting the local authority organisations.
