HC Deb 21 November 1968 vol 773 c1513
10. Mr. Judd

asked the Postmaster-General what is the latest estimated date at which he expects the new main post office in Portsmouth to become operational.

Mr. Joseph Slater

1975, Sir.

Mr. Judd

In view of the difficulties suffered by staff in present inadequate premises and the need to reassure the public of the future efficiency of the service, can my hon. Friend say why there has been a delay? Can he assure us that there will be no further delay and tell us when these building operations will start?

Mr. Slater

I appreciate the feelings of my hon. Friend concerning staff conditions, and his interest in this subject. It is true that the starting date for building has been put back by a few months. This arises from complications concerning site acquisition. Building work is likely to start in the middle of 1971. I hope that there will be no further delays.
