HC Deb 21 November 1968 vol 773 cc1523-4
54. Mr. Edwin Wainwright

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he will state the number of places in primary schools in each of the urban districts in the Dearne Valley constituency area, and the estimated number of pupils for 1969 and 1970.

The Minister of State, Department of Education and Science (Miss Alice Bacon)

This information is not readily available, as educational statistics are not related to urban districts.

Mr. Wainwright

Will my right hon. Friend take into account that the primary schools in some parts of the Dearne Valley constituency are becoming rather dilapidated? Will she do all she can to make certain that new schools will be built in the very near future?

Miss Bacon

Yes, Sir. But we have to take account of priorities, as does the West Riding Local Education Authority, which has been allocated £3¼ million in this year's school building programme. I am as anxious as my hon. Friend to do something about these and other schools.
