HC Deb 11 March 1968 vol 760 cc968-9
47. Mr. Hugh Jenkins

asked the Minister of Technology if he has studied the reports of the American Federal Aviation Agency., copies of which have been sent to him, that jet travel shortens the life span; and if he will investigate the extent to which supersonic travel will shorten it more rapidly.

Mr. Fowler

I am not aware of any report that jet travel shortens the life span.

Mr. Jenkins

I regret that my hon. Friend has not received the report, which I have sent to him. I will make sure that he gets it. However, will he accept my assurance that it is a medical report which was made to the American Federal Aviation Agency, as mentioned in the Question?

Mr. Fowler

I can only say that neither the American Federal Aviation Agency's administrator's office in London nor our Institute of Aviation Medicine can identify the report or reports mentioned by my hon. Friend. I would agree that it is widely recognised that people can be upset by time zone changes, but not that these have permanent ill effects or that jet travel is the cause of these disturbances.
