§ 31. Mr. G. Campbellasked the Postmaster-General what planning procedures are observed by the Post Office before deciding on the sites and nature of buildings to be constructed for use for Post Office or telephone services.
Mr. StonehonseThe local planning authority is consulted at the outset about any proposed development.
§ Mr. CampbellDoes the right hon. Gentleman realise that apparent lack of consultation with local authorities can cause resentment, as happened recently in Grantown-on-Spey, and will he ensure that sound planning procedures are not only adopted but are seen to be adopted?
§ Mr. StonehouseI cannot agree with the hon. Gentleman about the experience at Grantown-on-Spey. In fact, the county council, which is the planning authority, was consulted, and the town council is shortly to have a meeting with officials of my Department.
