HC Deb 01 February 1968 vol 757 c1525
4. Mr. Hooson

asked the Secretary of State for Wales what steps he intends to take to ensure that the Brynderwen Bridge at Abermule in Montgomeryshire can carry heavily laden transport vehicles.

Mr. Ifor Davies

My right hon. Friend will consider objections to the proposal to impose a 20-ton weight restriction on the bridge and will write to the hon. and learned Member as soon as he is able to reach a decision.

Mr. Hooson

Does the Under-Secretary appreciate that the normal daily loads along this road are often heavy loads? is a very severe handicap for an area removed from industrial centres to have an imposition of this kind on the main route out of such areas as Newtown?

Mr. Davies

I assure the hon. and learned Gentleman that my right hon. Friend is well aware of the general problems and he will study the particular difficulties revealed by the objections before deciding what is the best course of action.
