asked the Minister of Transport when she will approve in principle the proposed improvement at Hopwood Canal Bridge on the A441; and whether she will ensure that this essential improvement is included in an early programme.

Mr. Carmichael

This scheme is now approved in principle and has been included in the programme for 1968–69.

Mr. Dance

I am sure that my constituents will be extremely grateful for that information. May we have an assurance that this work will be started in the immediate future?

Mr. Carmichael

All that I can do is to reiterate that it has been included in the programme. We have no reason to believe that it will not be started in good time.
