HC Deb 15 November 1967 vol 754 c429
7. Mr. Wingfield Digby

asked the Minister of Transport what progress has been made in the last year in double tracking the A30 and A303 roads, respectively.

Mr. Carmichael

The lengths of dual carriageway opened to traffic during the last year are three miles on the A30 and one mile on the A303.

Mr. Digby

Is the Minister aware that that is quite inadequate, as the traffic congestion at weekends is becoming appalling throughout the whole of the summer months and is having a serious effect on the West Country?

Mr. Carmichael

We are aware of the problem of this road and of many other roads. Of the schemes in progress, the Sherborne-Yeovil length will be one mile of road and the A303 has two parts in progress, one of three miles and one of 1,000 yards. Other schemes are being programmed.
