HC Deb 04 May 1967 vol 746 cc712-3
13. Mr. Biggs-Davison

asked the Minister of Overseas Development what aid has been granted to the United Arab Republic in 1965, 1966 and the first quarter of 1967, respectively, and for what purposes; to what extent this aid was related to Egyptian purchase of British goods; and what further aid the Government intend to provide.

Mr. Bottomley

Her Majesty's Government have provided no new financial aid to the United Arab Republic in 1965, 1966 and the first quarter of 1967.

Disbursements of £460,000 in 1965 and £200,000 in 1966 were made in fulfilment of a credit agreement entered into in 1962 under Section 3 of the Export Guarantees Act. This was wholly tied to the purchase of British goods. All disbursements under this agreement have now been made.

My Ministry has no plans at present to give any further financial aid to the U.A.R.
