HC Deb 06 March 1967 vol 742 c1034
25. Mr. Allason

asked the Minister of Public Building and Works what was the expenditure on improvements to Fort George in 1960–61, 1961–62, 1962–63, 1963–64 and 1964–65, respectively.

Mr. Prentice

Information about the earlier years is not available, but since the financial year 1963–64, my Department has spent about £7,000 a year on maintenance of the Fort and associated accommodation. In 1964–65, a further £22,000 was spent as part of a separate service to preserve the Fort itself as an historic building.

Mr. Allason

My Question refers to improvements. The Minister appears to have answered about normal maintenance. Could we know the figure for improvements?

Mr. Prentice

Yes, Sir. I gave an Answer geared to the actual years mentioned in the Question. There is a current programme of renovation and adaptation for troops returning from abroad, which started in January this year at an estimated cost of £160,000, and it will be completed in about a year's time.
