§ 25. Mr. Allasonasked the Minister of Public Building and Works what was the expenditure on improvements to Fort George in 1960–61, 1961–62, 1962–63, 1963–64 and 1964–65, respectively.
§ Mr. PrenticeInformation about the earlier years is not available, but since the financial year 1963–64, my Department has spent about £7,000 a year on maintenance of the Fort and associated accommodation. In 1964–65, a further £22,000 was spent as part of a separate service to preserve the Fort itself as an historic building.
§ Mr. AllasonMy Question refers to improvements. The Minister appears to have answered about normal maintenance. Could we know the figure for improvements?
§ Mr. PrenticeYes, Sir. I gave an Answer geared to the actual years mentioned in the Question. There is a current programme of renovation and adaptation for troops returning from abroad, which started in January this year at an estimated cost of £160,000, and it will be completed in about a year's time.
