HC Deb 20 July 1967 vol 750 cc2444-5
2. Mr. Arthur Pearson

asked the Secretary of State for Wales if he will satisfy himself that the Pontypridd and Ystradyfodwg Joint Sewerage Board proposed new trunk sewerage and treatment scheme is designed for a capacity to provide for the industrial effluent from the Treforest Industrial Estate being emptied into the sewer; and if he will make a statement.

The Under-Secretary of State for Wales (Mr. Ifor Davies)

I understand that the Board is preparing a scheme but that it is not yet ready to submit its application to my right hon. Friend for loan sanction. When this application is received, the proposals will be examined to ensure that the scheme is adequate to meet the present and future needs of the drainage area, including the Industrial Estate.

Mr. Pearson

Is my hon. Friend aware that the present annoyance to industrialists on the Estate is such as to be an industrial hazard to the expansion required in this area?

Mr. Davies

Yes, Sir. We are aware of this situation, but before loan sanction is issued my right hon. Friend will need to be satisfied that there is sufficient spare capacity to deal with future development, including development of the Industrial Estate.
