§ 39. Mr. Danceasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he is yet in a position to make a statement on fire officers' pay following negotiations within the National Joint Council for Local Authorities Fire Brigades.
§ The Under-Secretary of State for the Home Department (Mr. David Ennals)It is for the National Joint Council for Local Authorities' Fire Brigades to seek to reach agreement on officers' pay on the basis of the recommendations of the National Board for Prices and Incomes. My right hon. Friend is not represented on the Council, but I understand that the Officers' Committee is to meet on 25th July.
§ Mr. DanceIs the hon. Gentleman aware that there is very great dissatisfaction in this splendid public service? They feel that they are being treated very badly. They should have an award very quickly.
§ Mr. EnnalsThere have been representations from the Association on this question. It would be inappropriate for me to make comments, in view of the negotiations which are taking place.
