HC Deb 28 February 1967 vol 742 c254
26. Mr. David Price

asked the Minister of Technology what work is being carried out by the Atomic Energy Authority on ceramics research and development, as measured by current expenditure, capital expenditure and the employment of qualified scientists and engineers; how this work compares with work carried out in 1964, 1965 and 1966; and whether it is his intention to increase it in the current quinquennium.

Dr. Bray

As the Answer contains a number of figures, I will, with permission, circulate a table in the OFFICIAL REPORT.

Mr. Price

How closely is this work being co-ordinated with the activities of the British Ceramics Research Association?

Dr. Bray

Very closely. The Association has been fully consulted throughout the setting up of the ceramics centre.

Following is the table:

Year Current Expenditure £m. Capital Expenditure £m. Qualified Scientists and Engineers
1963–64 2.9 0.2 213
1964–65 3.1 0.2 240
1965–66 3.4 0.3 273
1966–67 3.3 0.25 250

The estimated effort over the period 1967–72 is expected to occupy 200 Qualified Scientists and Engineers a year at a total cost of £14m.
