asked the Minister of Transport when the Government intend to publish the results of their research into trunk route transport costs.

This research is part of a continuing programme and my Department will be publishing its findings from time to time. I expect to publish information on trunk route transport costs in the spring of 1968.

What consideration has the right hon. Lady given to the theories of Mr. Gerald Fiennes, which tend to show that railway trunk costs could be reduced by as much as four-fifths, which would make important trunk lines, such as the Dumfries-Stranraer line, more economic?

The research that we are conducting in the Ministry covers all such implications as that.
