HC Deb 13 April 1967 vol 744 c1348
11. Mr. E. Rowlands

asked the Secretary of State for Wales whether he has yet received the report of his inspector on the public inquiry into the Gabalfa Interchange Compulsory Purchase Order.

Mr. Ifor Davies

Yes. The inspector has recommended that my right hon. Friend makes the Order as advertised. The objectors have been told and my right hon. Friend expects to make the Order in the next few days.

Mr. Rowlands

May we have an assurance that adequate compensation will be paid to those people expected to move or whose houses have been demolished? Does not my hon. Friend agree that compensation terms should be on the generous side, because people have lived in these houses for a long time?

Mr. Davies

My right hon. Friend has no jurisdiction over the amount of compensation. This is negotiated by the district valuer, who is independent. If the amount cannot be mutually agreed, there is the right of appeal to the Lands Tribunal.
