HC Deb 12 April 1967 vol 744 cc1186-7
18. Mr. Onslow

asked the Secretary of State for Defence what revised instructions he has issued concerning the consignment of military firearms by passenger train.

Mr. Boyden

I have now issued instructions that when small consignments of military firearms are sent by passenger train use must be made of the Recorded Parcels Transit Scheme operated by British Railways. This will enable the appropriate authorities to keep the closest control of arms consignments.

Mr. Onslow

Will that prevent their being stolen?

Mr. Boyden

I cannot give the hon. Member an assurance, but it is more likely to do so.
