HC Deb 24 October 1966 vol 734 c634
40. Dr. David Owen

asked the Minister of Labour what steps he is taking, in consultation with Plymouth City Council, to establish a sheltered workshop to serve the city's needs; and what evidence he has as to the optimum size for any such workshop.

The Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Labour (Mrs. Shirley Williams)

Our Department is in close touch with the council about its plans for a sheltered workshop. These have been given general approval, and we shall be prepared to make financial assistance available. I do not think it is possible to lay down an optimum size for such a workshop.

Dr. Owen

Is my hon. Friend aware that her reply will be warmly welcomed? There is a long felt need for a sheltered workshop in the city.
