HC Deb 30 November 1966 vol 737 c450
39. Mr. Hooley

asked the Lord President of the Council if he will arrange for at least one Committee Room in the House to be equipped for simultaneous interpretation to facilitate discussions between Members and distinguished foreign delegations.

Mr. Crossman

Arrangements already exist for simultaneous translation equipment and appropriate interpreters to be provided at reasonable notice in Committee Rooms 9, 10, 11, 12 and 14 and in the Grand Committee Room off Westminster Hall.

Mr. Hooley

I thank my right hon. Friend for that information. Would he not agree that it might encourage the use of this technique if at least one Committee Room were permanently equipped with the electronic equipment necessary, so that a lot of notice need not be given?

Mr. Crossman

I should have thought that the present arrangements were adequate in terms of the demand.
