HC Deb 24 November 1966 vol 736 c1579
38. Mr. Miscampbell

asked the President of the Board of Trade what conclusions he has reached as the result of the consideration he has given to the manufacture and sale of stink bombs in Great Britain; and what proposals he has to restrict their use.

The Minister of State, Board of Trade (Mr. George Darling)

I share the hon. Member's views on this matter but I think he is aware that we have no powers under which the manufacture or sale of these things could be prohibited. I am however considering with my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Home Affairs, whether any measures should be taken to deal with this nuisance.

Mr. Miscampbell

While grateful for the information that the right hon. Gentleman is considering the matter, may I ask if he will now urgently take powers to stop the unmitigated nuisance of these things being let off in public places?

Mr. Darling

I think the hon. Member might leave this to the discussions we are having with my right hon. Friend.
