HC Deb 05 May 1966 vol 727 c1852
33. Mr. Pavitt

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what steps he will take to ensure that, after the expenditure by taxpayers of £7,500 for the education and training of each qualified doctor of medicine, an adequate period of service shall be given to the community in Great Britain.

Mr. Goronwy Roberts

None, Sir.

Mr. Pavitt

Will my hon. Friend consider that Answer again? In spite of the incentives given yesterday for doctors to remain in this country there is still a need to retain even the small number, amounting to between 200 and 250, who are at present emigrating.

Mr. Roberts

We should wait to see the results of the incentives announced yesterday, and others which are on the way.
