§ 38. Mr. Freesonasked the Lord President of the Council what steps he is taking to modernise the conditions in the cafeteria and dining facilities of the House of Commons.
§ Mrs. BraddockI have been asked to reply.
Improvements to the conditions of the cafeteria and dining room facilities are continually under review. The Catering Sub-Committee is always prepared to consider specific suggestions from hon. Members, who will appreciate that under the new arrangement of control of the 1790 Palace, any such suggestions will also have to be examined by the Accommodation Sub-Committee.
§ Mr. FreesonWill my hon. Friend seriously consider as a first suggestion in the immediate future the preparation of a programme for the introduction of better heating and ventilation in various parts of the building, and particularly bear in mind the need for modern methods of air-conditioning in those areas?
§ Mrs. BraddockYes. The Committee is looking at these matters but there are difficulties because of the use of the accommodation for the whole time when the House is in session. This matter is being looked at because the staff need decent ventilation in places where they have to work.
§ Dame Irene WardIs the hon. Lady aware that over the years I have sent in quite a lot of ideas, none of which seem to have had any effect on the various Kitchen Committees? Could she please do something about some of the things I have asked about?
§ Mrs. BraddockI have been Chairman of the Kitchen Committee only for a short time. The hon. Lady will have to look to her own party with reference to that.
