asked the Minister of Pensions and National Insurance whether she is aware that the impression of the modern retirement pensioner conveyed by the picture on the cover of leaflet, NI 15, Retirement Pensions of June, 1965, is unsatisfactory; and if she will change it.

A million copies of the leaflet carrying this illustration have been distributed so far, with only two criticisms. If, however, the hon. Member has any particular suggestion for a change which he would like to put to me, I shall be glad to consider it.

Are not the majority of people reaching retirement age a good deal more "with it" than the rather fuddy-duddy couple depicted on the cover of the document? Is it not desirable that the Ministry should give the impression that it feels that such people still have a useful contribution to make to society, and will the right hon. Lady bear this in mind when the time comes to review the document?

I certainly shall. The old couple in the picture are doing what a great many old people do in retirement, gardening for the man and knitting for the woman, but I shall keep in mind what the hon. Gentleman says when we review it again.
