HC Deb 27 June 1966 vol 730 c1206
2. Mr. Clegg

asked the Minister of Pensions and National Insurance whether, in view of the increase in the cost of funerals due to the Selective Employment Tax, she will take steps to increase the death grant.

Miss Herbison

No, Sir.

Mr. Clegg

Will the right hon. Lady keep the position under review, in view of the many opinions about the effect of this tax?

Miss Herbison

I am certain that almost everyone will understand that the effect of the Selective Employment Tax on a simple funeral which takes the employment of four men for a very short time in the day will be very slight indeed.
