§ 35. Miss Lestorasked the Minister of Housing and Local Government if he will send a circular to local authorities to persuade them to provide play space for the pre-school child in high blocks of flats under their control.
§ Mr. MellishThe Department has issued advise on how this facility can best be provided. Most local authorities are following this advice and my right hon. Friend sees no need at present for a further circular on this subject.
§ Miss LestorWhile thanking my hon. Friend for that reply, may I ask him to consider the possibility of advising local authorities further upon the possibility of adapting the roofs of high flats as play space for young children? Would he also bear in mind, and urge local authorities to consider, the sad state which we are reaching, when young children living in high blocks of flats are deprived of play space and the company of pets because pets are banned in such flats?
§ Mr. MellishMy hon. Friend is quite right in what she says, and I can give her the assurance that my right hon. Friend is looking to see what further advice can be given to local authorities to deal with the matter she has raised.
