§ 11. Mr. Molloyasked the Minister of Overseas Development what steps have been taken to implement the Motion moved by the hon. Member for Ealing, North and agreed to by the House on 14th May, 1965, relating to school leavers and overseas service; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. OramThe work outlined in my replies of 20th July and 30th November continues and has been intensified. In the last two months officers of my Department have made 33 visits to institutions of higher education to talk about opportunities for overseas service. A new booklet has been produced to meet the needs referred to by my hon. Friend when he spoke on his Motion, and has been distributed to many undergraduates and sixth formers. I will send a copy to him.
§ Mr. MolloyIs my hon. Friend aware that what he has been able to say this afternoon will gladden the hearts of many people involved in our youth organisations, as well as the young people themselves and members of the profession? Will he consider enlarging the area in receipt of such information and, perhaps in collaboration with his right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Education and Science, see that as much information as possible is sent to our schools?
§ Mr. OramI thank my hon. Friend for his remarks. I can assure him that we have this matter very much in mind and shall extend the work whenever possible.
