HC Deb 08 February 1966 vol 724 cc182-3
12. Dame Joan Vickers

asked the Minister of Overseas Development what settlement has been made with the Government of the Federation of Malaysia in regard to the conditions of pay and service of the Sabah designated officers.

Mr. Oram

Negotiations are in progress with the Government of Malaysia but no settlement has yet been reached.

Dame Joan Vickers

In view of the excellent relations that we have always had with the Government of Malaysia, and the fact that these excellent officers will be needed for a considerable time, could not the hon. Gentleman press on with negotiations in order to see whether we can get a real settlement this time? It would be a worth-while thing to do.

Mr. Oram

We are pressing on as the hon. Lady urges. It is a matter of some difficulty and delicacy, however, and I am sure that she will realise that I would prefer not to say anything further at this time.
