HC Deb 12 December 1966 vol 738 cc29-30
52. Mr. Hugh Jenkins

asked the Minister of Labour why he has suppressed the publication of statistics of earnings in the Ministry of Labour Gazette.

Mr. Gunter

I have not done so. All earnings statistics have been published in the Gazette in the normal way.

Mr. Jenkins

Is my right hon. Friend not aware that, in the Ministry of Labour Gazette for September, it is stated that, in view of the prices and incomes standstill, publication of monthly changes in rates of wages and hours of work has been suspended? Surely, however, it is in just such a period of standstill that we want to know what changes have taken place.

Mr. Gunter

In September, my Department temporarily suspended the monthly publication on changes of rates of wages and hours of work solely because the number of changes in wage rates was too small to justify separate publication. Instead, the changes have been published each month in the Ministry of Labour Gazette.
