HC Deb 04 March 1965 vol 707 cc1507-8
15. Mr. Kitson

asked the President of the Board of Trade how much his Department is charging per square metre for space in the British Pavilion allocated to it at the Poznan Fair; and how this figure was arrived at.

Mr. Jay

The figure is £13 10s., or about half the cost to the Board of Trade. This comprises £5 for rent, and contributions of £8 towards the cost of shell stands and pavilion treatment and of 10s. towards the cost of a reception.

Mr. Kitson

Could the right hon. Gentleman say why it is necessary to charge £13 10s. when the Board of Trade gets it for only £5 10s.? Surely that is not very much encouragement to British exporters?

Mr. Jay

The Board of Trade is paying only part of the cost and is leaving a part of it to the firms which exhibit. I think that that is not unreasonable.
