HC Deb 19 January 1965 vol 705 c15
22. Mr. Peter Walker

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he will reduce the stamp duty imposed on temporary life assurance policies.

Mr. Diamond

I have noted the hon. Member's suggestion.

Mr. Walker

Would the hon. Gentleman take into account the fact that the stamp duty on some of these temporary life policies is more than the premium, which results in the loss of income from overseas, and that no other country imposes a stamp duty of this nature? Will this be taken into account from the balance of payments point of view?

Mr. Diamond

I am aware of the point which the hon. Gentleman is making.
