§ 2. Lord Balnielasked the Minister of Health whether he will make a statement about the progress of his discussions on the Platt Report on Nursing Education.
§ 86. Mr. James Johnsonasked the Minister of Health whether he has yet made a decision upon the Platt Report on Nursing Education.
§ Mr. K. RobinsonThe views of hospitals authorities on the Report are now being received. When they have been considered consultations with professional and other organisations will follow.
§ Lord BalnielCan the right hon. Gentleman say when representations by professional bodies should be sent to him? Secondly, will he bear in mind the very widespread view that the Platt Report did not place enough emphasis upon psychiatric nursing in the general nursing training course?
§ Mr. RobinsonI shall certainly bear in mind what the noble Lord says. As for consultation, we asked hospital authorities to let us have their views by 31st January. Some still have to report. We will have to consider those before we approach the professional bodies for their views.
§ Mr. JohnsonIs my right hon. Friend aware that student nurses as a whole do not favour the findings of this Committee? They do not very much like the two-tier system of training because it smacks too much of the American pattern of degree nursing.
§ Mr. RobinsonIf my hon. Friend's assumption is right no doubt this will 10 come out in the course of consultations with the nursing profession.
